Criminal Law

In 2009 Richard acted as an instructing solicitor:

  • at a murder trial at the Supreme Court;
  • in a significant appeal to the Court of Criminal Appeal.

Richard retains criminal law barristers to act in criminal defence of clients in District Court of WA and Supreme Court of WA cases. Richard has acted as instructing solicitor in these situations many times in the past.

For criminal cases in the Magistrates Court of WA, Richard appears at trial himself on behalf of clients.

Richard has appeared for many clients doing pleas of mitigation in the Magistrates Court of WA and, on occasion, in the District Court of WA.

This paper by Chief Justice Wayne Martin provides insight about the sentencing process in WA, including in relation to appeals.
